Inclusion Criteria

Participants will be eligible if they are aged between 18 to 30 years old, have diagnosed as primary dysmenorrhea and have also diagnosed as cold-dampness stagnation pattern according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the course of disease is 6 months to 15 years, have scores >= 40 mm on 100 on the VAS and no oral administration of any analgesic 24 hours before trial.

Exclusion Criteria

Patients with irregular menstruation, asthma, psychological diseases or life-threatening conditions (eg, disorders of the cardiovascular, liver, kidney or hematopoietic system) were excluded from this study. Patients with prior knowledge of acupuncture, those who had taken analgesic medication in the 24-hour period before the acupuncture intervention, and those who had potential problems with treatment compliance were also excluded.
