acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(All of the patients were diagnosed with COPD, according to the criteria established by the GOLD, and fulfilled the requirements of FEV1 < 80% and FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) < 70% following inhalation of a bronchodilator. The enrolled patients were also underwent AECOPD with moderate hypercapnic acute respiratory failure (ARF) requiring NIV. Moderate hypercapnic ARF was defined by a partial arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) of less than 60 mmHg (<8.0 kpa) and PaCO2 greater than 45 mmHg (>6.0 kpa) characterized by pH levels between 7.25 and 7.35.)
bronchial asthma, malignancy including lung cancer, severe cardiovascular disorder including valvular heart disease, recent myocardial infarction (within 3 months), and pacemaker insertion, severe renal insufficiency requiring hemodialysis and neurological diseases including cerebral infarction or hemorrhage
