Brief Summary

Patients who areundergoing elective surgeries done under general anaesthesia with endotracheal intubationand satisfies our study inclusion criteria in a year will be selected.Patients will be receivingeither nebulization Dexamethasone 8 mg [2ml] with 3 ml normal saline (or)   nebulization Lignocaine 2%  100mg [5 ml ] 30 min prior to induction of general anaesthesia.The occurrence of sore throat, post operative hoarseness, cough and if any side effects will be assessedpostoperatively for 24h.

Inclusion Criteria
  • 1.Patients belonging to American Society of Anaesthesiologists Physical Status grade I and II.
  • 2.Patients posted for elective surgeries under general anaesthesia with tracheal intubation less than 4 hours.
  • 3.Patients between age group 18 to 60 years.
  • 4.Patients willing to give informed consent to participate in the study.
  • 5.Mallampatti grade I and II.
  • 6.Laryngoscopy done by experienced anaesthesiologist in single attempt.
Exclusion Criteria
  • 1.Patients with known hypersensitivity or contra-indications to study drugs.
  • 2.Received drugs(other than study drugs) that prevent sore throat, 24 hours before anaesthesia..
  • 3.Patients with Body mass index more than 30.
  • 4.ASA grade III and IV 5.Mallampatti III and IV 6.History of URTI in previous 2 weeks 7.H/O smoking 8.More than 2 attempts at laryngoscopy and intubation 9.Patients who are on steroids 10.Patients requiring manipulation of airway or instrumentation(like oral airway,stylet,bougie, external laryngeal maneuver) 11.Pregnant patients.
