Smokers who smoke 8 cigarettes per day for at least 3 years.
Non smokers are those who has never smoked.
Patients with chronic periodontitis, defined as attachment loss of atleast 4 mm at one or more sites
One or more interproximal sites with pocket depth (PD) > 5mm.
Minimum of 20 teeth present.
Ex smokers.
Pregnancy, lactation, pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy, and coronary artery disease, skin or chronic diseases which can also increase the CRP levels.
Any oral inflammatory lesions such as ulcers, desquamative lesions.
History of periodontal therapy or antimicrobial therapy within 6 months.
History of orthodontic therapy.
Any medications known to affect periodontium like aspirin, NSAIDS.
Subjects with history of coagulation disorders, chronic renal disease, peripheral vascular disease.
Any infectious or debilitating disease.
Habits such as tobacco chewing, alcohol intake.
Patients on radiotherapy.
