Inclusion Criteria
Children admitted to hospital with acute diarrhea (passed abnormal watery and/or mucous stool more than 3 times within previous 24 hours for less than 2 weeks duration).
Exclusion Criteria
1.children who had evidence of systemic infection or neurological disturbances or history of convulsions, or chronic medical conditions due, for instance, to immunodeficiency chronic gastrointestinal conditions
2.recent consumption of zinc supplements or vitamins
3.severe dehydration or persistent vomiting,
