Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\. Adult female patients ( \>18 years of age)
- •2\. ASA I to III
- •3\. Baseline Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) \> 24
- •4\. Malignancy surgery expected to last \> 90 min
Exclusion Criteria
- •Pregnancy, trauma, emergency surgery and obvious infections
- •Alcohol/drug abuse
- •On beta blocker therapy
- •Contraindications for dexmedetomidine administration e.g. sick sinus syndrome ,
- •secondary heart blocks , hepatic dysfunction , renal dysfunction requiring dialysis or
- •allergy to dexmedetomidine
- •Known case of neurological or psychiatric disorders (Parkinsonism, Alzheimer’s
- •Patients receiving drugs which predispose to the development of POD like
- •anticholinergics, opioids and psychoactive drugs, e.g., cocaine, heroin, Lysergic acid
- •diethylamide (LSD).
