Inclusion Criteria

Undergoing elective knee arthroscopy or an elective total hip arthroplasty (posterolateral approach)
between 18 and 70 years
signed informed consent

Exclusion Criteria

pre-existing immune deficiency
use of immunosuppressant drugs
previous orthopedic surgery in the last two years
surgery in the last year
cognitive impairment
vaccination in the last month before surgery

<p>Determine the exact lymphocyte populations that undergo changes in numbers in<br /><br>the bloodstream upon acute damage.<br /><br>Concentration of serum interleukines and classica seruml tissue damage markers<br /><br>(CRP and CK) levels over time after surgery.<br /><br>Define the bone marrow population from which the immature blood monocytes, that<br /><br>enter the bloodstream after tissue damage, arise.<br /><br>Evaluate the leukocyte composition in bone marrow of the femoral heads in the<br /><br>THA patients.</p><br>
