Inclusion Criteria

1) Female gender

2) 18 ââ?¬â?? 65 years of age

3) Patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic surgery

4) ASA-I and II patients

5) BMI <35kg/m2

6) Acceptance of the study by the patient by giving valid consent

Exclusion Criteria

1) Patient refusal to participate in the study

2) ASA 3 or higher

3) BMI > 35 kg/m2

4) Patients with impaired pharyngeal or esophageal function, gastroesophageal reflux disease

5) Phenylketonuria (contraindication to the sweetener aspartame in chewing gum)

6) A full upper or lower denture (not feasible to chew gum)

7) Patients who received antiemetic or steroid 24 hrs. before surgery

8) Conversion to open cholecystectomy

9) Patients with delayed gastric emptying (Diabetes, autonomic neuropathy)
