Inclusion Criteria: American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification I-II adult patients scheduled for elective inguinal hernia repair surgery under spinal anesthesia were included.
Exclusion criteria: Body mass index (BMI) below 18 or above 28 kg/m2, conditions or medications known to affect insulin sensitivity, glucose metabolism, and gastrointestinal motility, personal or family history of metabolic disease or diabetes mellitus, symptoms or signs of gastrointestinal disease, patients with hypertension, and pregnancy, as well as those cases contraindicated for spinal anesthesia. Fasting blood glucose levels, C-reactive protein and serum liver tests were normal in all subjects.
