Inclusion Criteria

patients giving informed consent for the study,All patients were asked to fill a proforma and those patients with similar diurnal variations (Early risers i.e. at or before 6:30 and sleeping time before 21:30) were selected. Patients above 18 years of age, in good health with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in mandibular first molars, with moderate to high pain intensity ( >54mm, on a 0-170mm Visual Analog Scale (23)) without any radiographic sign of periapical radiolucency (on intraoral periapical radiograph) were selected.

Exclusion Criteria

patients allergic to lignocaine or any other constituents used in the trial, not giving informed consent for the study
