Inclusion Criteria

Suffering from type II diabetes mellitus.

Exclusion Criteria

•Those who were on treatment for any diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesteraleamia were excluded from the study when their medications were changed due to any reason.

•Advanced complications of diabetes, such as retinopathy with laser treatment, neuropathy with renal impairment and extensive diabetic ulcers.

•Those who receive insulin therapy.

•Those who did not consume rice as the staple food.

•Patients who did not understand English and/or Sinhala language
