Inclusion Criteria

-Adult (≥ 18 years old)
-Present with features of TN, based on current guidelines of the Headache Classification Committee of the International Headache Society (IHS)

Exclusion Criteria

-Patients with painful trigeminal neuropathy (e.g. due to the growth of organic lesions or tumors)
-Acute infectious disease within the previous three weeks
-Past or present neurological, psychiatric, metabolic, cardiovascular, muscular, or chronic inflammatory disease
-Smoking habits or alcohol consumption of more than 40 g/day
-Medical conditions that required treatment with glucocorticoids, analgesics, or antidepressant drugs
-Pregnancy or current breastfeeding.
