Randomized, double-blind, study to compare the incidence and intensity lf neurologic and pschiatic adverse events of efavirenz when given as a stepped dosage (200 mg qd for 6 days, 400 mg qd for 7 days and 600 mg qd from the day 14 farward) with the usual dosage (600 mg qd from first day)

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • \-Pacientes \= 18 años con infección por el VIH.
  • \-Pacientes que a los que se les haya prescrito un tratamiento antirretroviral que incluya efavirenz.
  • \-Test de embarazo en orina negativo (para mujeres que pueden quedar embarazadas). Además, todos las mujeres en edad fértil deben usar un método contraceptivo efectivo (incluye abstinencia sexual) durante el tratamiento. Ello no es necesario en mujeres esterilizadas quirúrgicamente o en estado de postmenopausia.
  • \-Consentimiento informado del paciente.

Exclusion Criteria

  • \-Pacientes embarazadas o que no utilicen medios de contracepción seguros.
  • \-Tratamiento con metadona.\-Historia de enfermedad psiquiátrica mayor
  • \-Enfermedad psiquiátrica que haya motivado el inicio de tratamiento con psicofármacos en las 4 semanas previas.
  • \-Tratamiento concomitante con rifamicinas, inhibidores de proteasa y otros fármacos que afecten la farmacocinética de efavirenz de forma significativa.
  • \-Cirrosis hepática clínicamente evidente o datos analíticos de insufuciencia hepática .
  • \-Imposibilidad para seguir las visitas programadas en el plan de trabajo
