Inclusion Criteria
ICU-treated severe sepsis
Exclusion Criteria
Cases with an inhospital treatment of a diagnosed sepsis within 12 month before the considered hospitalization were excluded from the analyses of the insurance data. Patients who were not continuously insured by the AOK over the complete study period from 2009 to 2017 were also excluded. There are no further exclusion criteria.

Name Time Method (i) analysis of nationwide insurance data from one of the largest statutory health insurances in Germany (AOK) between 2009-2017: incidence of sepsis sequelae (physical, cognitive, mental)<br>(ii) survey study on the satisfaction with sepsis aftercare of sepsis survivors and their caregivers: health care utilization after sepsis (rehabilitation, outpatient treatments, hospital readmissions), satisfaction of patients and relatives with sepsis aftercare, perceived deficits in sepsis aftercare
