Brief Summary

**6.****BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK**  Diabetesand periodontitis are common chronic diseases in the world and abundantepidemiological evidence implies a bidirectional relationship between these twodiseases. Diabetic mellitus is recognized as an important risk factor for mostsevere and progressive periodontitis infection or lesion resulting in thedestruction of tissue and supporting bone that formsthe attachment around the tooth. Periodontal disease has been reported as the 6thcomplication of diabetic mellitus.1

Periodontal disease isprevalent both in developed and developing countries and affects about 20-50%of global population.   In Type 2diabetic individuals with severe form of periodontal disease have 3.2 timesgreater mortality risk. Untreated chronic periodontitis is responsible fortooth loss in majority of the cases. In this study it is targeted inmanaging periodontitis while giving importance with maintaining better glycemiccontrol.

In *Ayurveda* there is no direct referencefor Diabetic periodontitis. But the symptoms explained are correlated with *upakusha*. (Symptoms are *danthaveshteshu daha, paka,* *chaladantha, rakthasrava, pootimuka).Dantamala* is one of the *pramehapoorvarupa* which is quoted by *susrutain nidana sthana.*

*Gandusha*and *lepana* are proved to be effectivein *mukha roga* and itscomplication. They has few merits like: cost effective since no majorinfrastructure is required, less intervention in manual support, adoptable athome/clinical level. Hence in present study an effort is made to observe theeffect of *gaurasarshapa lepana* and *gandusha* through *lakshadi taila* in diabeticperiodontitis.

**HYPOTHESIS**

1.Null hypothesis – *Gaurasarsapa lepana*and *lakshadi taila gandusha* has nosignificant result in diabetic periodontitis

2. Alternative hypothesis- *Gaurasarsapadilepana* *and lakshadi gandusha* hassignificant result in diabetic periodontitis.
