Patients giving written informed consent or their representatives if the patients are too unwell to provide consent at the time of recruitment. HAM-D score more than or equal to 19. SSI score more than or equal to 4.
-Individuals diagnosed with dementia and/or mental retardation
-Individuals diagnosed with seizure disorder or severe head injury, severe medical/surgical illness or electrocardiogram abnormality
-Individuals having a history of schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders.
-Individuals diagnosed with Depression with psychotic features
-Individuals having a history of contraindications for ketamine or a history of ketamine abuse/dependence.(eg. Severe cardiovascular disease, elevated intra cranial pressure, severe liver disease, poorly controlled HTN)
-History of alcohol or substance dependence (except nicotine and caffeine) in the year prior to the study
-Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
