•Adult patients aged between 18-60 years of either gender for elective abdominal surgeries under General Anaesthesia.
•Patients belonging to ASA Grade Ð? and Ð?Ð? .
•ASA grade of >=III
•obesity [body mass index (BMI), >30]
•opioid addiction
•patients undergoing psychiatric treatment.
•uncontrolled hypertension, severe heart disease, conduction abnormality, neuropsychiatric diseases, alcohol abuse
•allergy to either Butorphanol or Dexmedetomidine.
•Pregnancy.
•If patients require rescue analgesia with in 24 h post operatively.
