Inclusion Criteria

1.Patients who will be receiving mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours.

2.Patients who will be receiving mechanical ventilation through endotracheal tube.

3.Patients who will meet the standard criteria for weaning readiness. [ (Arterial blood gas-PaO2 >60 mm of Hg, PaCO2 <50 mm of Hg, FiO2 <0.5, PaO2/FiO2 >300, PEEP <5), (Respiratory rate <35 breaths/min ), (Tidal volume >5ml/kg, vital capacity >10 ml/kg, minute ventilation 4 to 10 l/min, Afebrile, no electrolyte/ metabolic abnormality)]

4.Hemodynamically stable in absence of vasopressors.

5.Careful recordings in patients with hepatomegaly, splenomegaly.

Exclusion Criteria

1.Advanced pulmonary fibrosis.

2.Kyphoscoliosis

3.Tense ascites

4.Patients who died before third day of ventilation

5.Pregnancy more than 28 weeks

6.Cervical spinal cord injury

7.Pneumothorax

8.Neuro-muscular disorders ( such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Guillain barre, Myasthenia gravis etc).

9.Ultrasonographic findings of absent diaphragmatic mobility (unilateral/bilateral).

10.Patients who were on mechanical ventilator before getting admission inside the selected ICU.
