1. admission to the interdisciplinary weaning ward WEA1 for weaning from mechanical ventilation from an acute intensive care unit
2. invasive ventilation via endotracheal tube or tracheal cannula on admission
3. expected duration of treatment at least 5 days
1. age <18 years
2. pregnancy
3. admission from an outpatient ventilation facility to the weaning ward
4. presence of pre-existing neuromuscular diseases
5. presence of pareses of the diaphragm
6. presence of rib fractures in the examination area
7. presence of surgical wounds in the examination area
