healthy postmenopausal women
- aged 50 and older
- obesity (BMI =30 m²/kg or =27 m²/kg and waist circumference of >88 cm)
- ability to understand the study protocol und to ask if they have questions
- ablility to walk without auxiliaries, to step ten stairs and to presume their typical daily activities
- consistant physical activity since the las three months
- weight change ± five percent in the last six months
- BMI >35 kg/m² (because of bioelectrical impedance analysis method)
- type 2 diabetes
- creatinine >2,0 mg/dl
- thyroid disease
- medication (steroids, diuretics, thyroid drugs, statins, weight loss medication, insulin, beta blockers)
- life expectancy under two years
- participation in other weight loss programs
- kidney or liver failure
- anemia
- chronic inflammation
- protein supplementation during the last three months
- high physical activity level (PAL >2)
- heart diseases
- neurological disorders-
- electronic implants
- active prostheses
- life-sustaining electronic devices
- portable electronic medical devices
- aversion or allergy to whey products
- inability to give complete written forms and consent
- unwillingness to be randomized in one of the two intervention groups and to follow the study protocol for 12 weeks.
